Control, Instrumentation and Automation (CIA) Engineer

A control, instrumentation, and automation engineer (CIA engineer) is responsible for designing, developing, installing, managing and/or maintaining equipment which is used to monitor and control engineering systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following, however other duties may be assigned.

  • To ensure that the systems and processes operate effectively, efficiently, and safely.
  • Thorough understanding of the operational processes of an organization and have a truly multidisciplinary role working closely with fellow employees across many different functions, including operating, purchasing, and design.
  • Designing and developing new control systems: Modbus communication, Ethernet, DH& DH+, Device Net, Control Net, TCP/IP.
  • Integration party components: Laser sensors, Camera System Components, Proximity Switches, Mechanical Switches Develop specific control disciplines such as APC, DCS, PLC, and SCADA.
  • Maintaining and modifying existing systems.
  • Working collaboratively with design engineers, operation engineers, purchasers and other internal staff.
  • Project management within cost and time constrained environments.
  • Trouble shooting and problem solving.
  • Understanding and ensuring compliance with the health and safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Providing advice and consultancy support.
  • Advising on purchasing equipment.
  • Writing simple computer software.
  • Accepting responsibility and a level of accountability commensurate with the seniority of the position.
  • Establishing wiring design and cabinet layout and installation of cabinet components. (relays, terminal strips, surge suppressor, PLC components, Power Supply, etc., Fiber Optic Termination, CAT 5 and CAT 6)
  • Familiarity with PLC platforms such as: Allen Bradley, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Direct Automation.

Other Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of CAD Previous experience with robotic controls
  • Experience with Solid Works

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in Electrical Computer, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Undergraduate projects in automation a plus
  • 1-5 years’ experience desired

Computer Skills:

  • Must be very capable for MS Office Suite of products.
  • Ideal candidate would also be familiar with various methods of robotic automation, single and multi-axis linear actuated robotic transfer systems.

Design and Automation Engineer

Develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following, however other duties may be assigned.

  • Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs.
  • Applying knowledge of product design,  fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Soliciting observations from operators.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements.
  • Researching, designing, modifying and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Improving manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods.
  • Testing finished-product and process capabilities.
  • Establishing standards.
  • Confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with governmental regulations .
  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures.
  • Requesting special service.
  • Maintains product and process data base by writing computer programs, entering data.

Other Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of CAD
  • Previous experience with robotic controls
  • Experience with Solid Works

Electrical Controls Machinist Engineer

Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists’ hand tools by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following, however other duties may be assigned.

  • Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Lifts machined parts and positions and secure parts on surface plate or worktable.
  • Smoothes flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders, and fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
  • Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
  • Heat-treats tools or parts.
  • Connects wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components.
  • Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
  • Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
  • Develop specific control disciplines such as APC, DCS, PLC, and SCADA.
  • Maintaining and modifying existing systems.
